Kiss the Sky to Conquer Diabetes Climbs Again

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: “Kiss the Sky to Conquer Diabetes Climbs Again -- ‘Mountain Music for a Cure’ fund raising initiative to support Phase II clinical trails of potential cure for diabetes!’”

RANCHO SANTA FE, CA, JUNE 27, 2009 – Kiss the Sky to Conquer Diabetes announced today that the KTS climbing team guided by Craig Van Hoy, one of America’s most accomplished climbers, will attempt to summit Mount Hood, in Oregon, on July 15th, 2009. The team will then tie in with friends, family and Yonder Mountain String Band at the Northwest String Summit over weekend of July 17th-19th. This effort, “Mountain Music for a Cure”, is devoted to raise funds to support Phase II clinical trials of a potential cure for diabetes being conducted by the Faustman Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital.

With the support of Lee Iacocca and the Iacocca Foundation and funds raised through grass roots initiatives, including those of Kiss the Sky to Conquer Diabetes, more than $10 million was raised to fully fund the Phase 1 of human clinical trials. Phase I of clinical trials began in January 2008 and is expected to be completed this year. These clinical trials are unique because they are focused on people living with diabetes, as opposed to only those who have been newly-diagnosed, and the goal is to develop a cure for diabetes, not just manage the condition. Phase II of the human clinical trials is expected begin later this year, to last three years and to cost approximately $25 million. At least $8.4 million is expected to be needed to initiate the first year of Phase II.

KTS Co-Founder Kate Noble said: “We’re very excited about “Mountain Music for a Cure” and we’re already well on our may to our goal of raising $50,000 to help support Dr. Faustman. 100% of the money raised in this effort will go to help finance Phase II of clinical trials of a potential cure for diabetes.”
Kiss the Sky to Conquer Diabetes organizes mountain climbs around the world and other events to raise awareness and funds to support efforts to find a cure for diabetes. KTS was founded in 2002 by Kate Noble, who has had diabetes since she was 1, and by her dad Rick Noble who has often said that he would “travel to the ends of the earth and climb every mountain to find a cure for diabetes.” Since 2002, Kiss the Sky to Conquer Diabetes teams have climbed peaks from Washington’s Cascade Range to Bolivia’s Cordillera Real to help find a cure for diabetes.
